Small inspections and cleaning routines protect finishes, appliances, plumbing, and indoor air.
Weekly attention
Wipe spills using cleaners compatible with the surface, clean sink strainers, inspect the cabinet below the sink, and wash heavily used appliance handles and controls. Look for slow drains, loose hardware, new cabinet swelling, or water near supply lines. Early moisture detection is far cheaper than repairing hidden damage.
Monthly checks
Clean or inspect range-hood filters, dishwasher filters, refrigerator seals, ice and water areas, and disposal splash guards as applicable. Vacuum accessible toe-kick grilles and appliance vents according to instructions. Test task lights and examine caulk at sinks and wet areas.
Seasonal work
Pull out movable appliances when safely possible, clean accessible coils or vents as directed, inspect water connectors, check shutoff valves for accessibility, and review fire-extinguisher condition. Clean cabinet tops and high shelves where grease and dust accumulate. Follow manufacturer procedures before moving or disconnecting equipment.
Keep a kitchen record
Store finish care sheets, paint colors, grout and caulk products, appliance models, filter sizes, warranty dates, contractor contacts, and repair history together. Photograph concealed utilities before walls close during a remodel. Good records make maintenance faster and reduce guesswork when replacements are needed.
Before work begins
Conditions, products, contracts, codes, and installation requirements vary. Verify current documents for the exact project and use appropriately licensed or qualified professionals where required.
